Angela's Anecdote

Angela Williamson implemented the following while employed for 9+ years in the education department of Longwood Gardens:

  • Teaching and learning techniques

  • Supervising two administrative staff and multiple volunteers

  • Recruiting/managing teachers, guides, and students (high school, international, professional gardener certificate, and adult learners).

She has built and expanded volunteer engagement at Hagley Museum & Library and the Blood Bank of Delmarva. Volunteers were:

  • In limited roles

  • Less in number

  • Using old record keeping, engagement strategies, and a status quo mentality

At the Blood Bank of Delmarva she has:

  • Energized, empowered, trained, educated, and created lead volunteer roles

  • Incorporated administrative volunteers to assist with a larger work load

  • Increased number of volunteers, who gave hours, from 60 to over 400 in 2023

  • Expanded involvement from 1 department to 7

Angela maintains and continues to grow her network in the volunteer leadership field. She creatively and persistently expanded the impact of volunteerism by using different techniques.  Her approach to work, life, and challenges is to perceive the end goal, and to creatively work through, with, and around the issues or roadblocks to get there.

Your situation is unique!
I see you and your specific needs and tailor solutions and tools accordingly.

Assessment

Initial consult and visit (online/in person) to determine needs and if I’m the right person to address needs. Approximately 1 hour

  • I send Pre-Visit questions for organization to have time to think about questions.

  • Set goals and results desired, and ways to measure progress depending on desired outcomes/goals - survey before/after of volunteers, staff, and clients served by organization, numbers improved, efficiency/effectiveness improved?

Hourly/Retainer

Hourly needed as reference and knowledge as have questions and need advice/direction - probably for a group that has good foundation, and dedicated staff/volunteers willing to do much of the work and I’m retained as advisor by hourly rates with 1 hour minimum pay each time contacted.

I need the basics

Need resources created? Applications, appreciation plan, handbook, and more? I create materials needed and train staff/volunteer to use them. Still on paper applications or tracking? I'll help move you from paper to the digital age.

I want long term success and impact!

Need more personalized input? I will fully engage as a volunteer engagement leader in the organization WITH a staff or volunteer who will take over. I mentor that person, helping them set up systems, materials, training, etc. and spend one on one time with that person who will implement and run the engagement. See Retainer option above for continued support and guidance.

Testimonials

Lisa Romish

Few people possess the ability to truly see everyone in the room and find the best in them. Angela Williamson is one of those unique individuals. She champions people and brings out their best whether they are a volunteer or a colleague. She makes sure everyone feels seen and appreciated, especially when the person is struggling. She is a fantastic mentor and friend to everyone she comes in contact with.

Angela is passionate about volunteers and the valuable work they provide to organizations. Working with her on the DAVA board, I have seen her use her expertise to help countless volunteer managers to improve their programs and themselves. She is the first one to jump in and help when someone asks. She uses creative problem solving abilities to help find solutions for issues and utilizes others in the best way possible to get the work done.
Ms Williamson has helped me to become better at my job and has championed me every step of the way, especially when I have doubted myself. She has been an amazing cheerleader as I have grown in my position. She is simply the best!
